Uniting All Women

This inclusive event was for women of all races, cultures, religions, backgrounds and ages from across Canterbury. Lady Khadija Trust was a key partner to the project, an initiative created by six Canterbury women.

The Outcome

On 10 July 2019, a group of almost 600 women in Christchurch New Zealand came together in response to the tragic terror attack of 15 March 2019, when 51 members of the city's Muslim community lost their lives.

Women of all cultures, race and religions, gathered at the Centennial Chapel at St Andrew's College, to share an evening of unity, compassion, connection and aroha (love) simply as human women regardless of their backgrounds, and to support the Muslim community.

This video has all the highlights from this extraordinary evening, with many brave women, across several different cultures, sharing their incredible personal stories, which touched the hearts of those in attendance, and fostered greater understanding and acceptance.

Through gatherings, storytelling, and connection, Uniting Canterbury Women is continuing to break down barriers, judgements and misconceptions, and is providing opportunities for women to build new connections and relationships in the community.

“It is our hope that women in other cities around the world will be inspired to create similar initiatives and opportunities to celebrate diversity and bring women together.”
